All day classes are conducted at our midtown studio from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with an hour break for lunch. The studio is equipped with a refrigerator and microwave oven so feel free to brown bag it in the studio or you can walk to one of the great restaurants on Kansas City's "restaurant row". Refreshments are provided during class time. Also, students have free access to the internet via WiFi and long distance calling during classes.

All materials needed for each class are provided, as well as detailed, written directions and color formulas for each technique. You'll create sample boards to add to your portfolio or your "home file". To find a date and time for a workshop you would like to take, click on schedules.

walls 1The Walls I workshop is the perfect place to spend a Saturday. Learn to transform your walls from a flat unexciting finish to walls with depth and texture using paint and glaze. We'll show you five different decorative paint finishes that can be layered and combined in an infinite number of ways to make your home unique.

The techniques covered include: Parchment - Shadow Striping - Layered Sponging - Ragging and Frottage. You'll learn about color selection and how to mix and apply your own water-based glazes. Each student will take home their samples of paint finishes that they create in class along with written instructions for each technique.

Students work in a hands-on style, completing full size walls. You'll learn the tricks used by professionals to handle corners and how to create a smooth even wall finish.

walls 2The Walls II Workshop is a comprehensive two-day seminar for students who have mastered the basic wall finishes.

Students are introduced to multi-color glazing techniques, traditional Strie', metallic tortoise, rag rolling, oil glazing, color washing, and other more advanced finishes. You'll leave the studio with the beginnings of a professional portfolio. This is an essential hands-on workshop for the aspiring professional or creative individual interested in taking their skills to a higher level.

TextureThe Texture class is a hands-on two day workshop using newly developed formulas to create great depth of color and texture with minimal effort. All the materials are locally available and inexpensive.

Take home samples with written text including color formulas for Elephant Hide, Old World Plaster, Old World Crackle Plaster, Plaster Impressions, Tissue Texture and Venetian Plaster. Textured walls are one of the hottest trends in decorating today, so don't miss out, sign up today!

The Stone workshop will assist you in creating a three dimensional look that is one of the classic elements of decorative painting. It can be used as an overall wall finish or as a "frame" for mural work. You will learn how to measure for block walls and frames along with several different methods used to create stone, like a simple tape and sponge method to more intricate layering of color and shadow.

The Stone II workshop is for those of you wanting to take faux stone to the next level. We'll complete samples of marble, malachite, granite, and a new "pitted" stone that is great for columns, mantels, and woodwork. Trowel-textured stone is a new addition that's perfect for the current "Tuscan" look in decorating. Formal marble is making a comeback on columns and tabletops, and you'll learn two classics, Carrera and Verde as well as tumbled Travertine.

In the Sky workshop you'll learn techniques for creating realistic or stylized clouds for murals, ceilings or decorative accessories.  Sky ceilings remain very popular as they can open up a small or dark room giving it a more spacious feel.  Great in combination with Stone techniques, as both are essential basics in Trompe L'Oeil (fool the eye) painting.  Included are techniques for a night sky, and a colorful sunset.

In the Metallics workshop, learn to work with the newest metallic mediums for interior and exterior, furniture, accessories and walls.

How exciting is this? Those beautiful tin ceilings, the old copper and brass look. Imagine chairs that look like they've been aging for years in the garden. Have you ever seen a steel wall that's turned a burnt orange with oxidation? You can do this. We can show you how.

We cover metal leafing, oxidizing, and aging techniques. Students will take home their own samples of faux bronze, lead, pewter, verde', rust, metallic crackle, and a contemporary metallic wall finish

muralsIn the Murals workshop, you'll learn the basics of light, shadow, and creating depth. Create a custom trompe l'oeil mural to take home. We teach techniques for quick, large scale painting using water based paints and glazes.

All murals are completed on lightweight vinyl canvas that can be hung and stripped like wallpaper.  A truly "moveable" mural.  Choose from the beginners two day potted tree mural or either of the three day murals, Bookshelf, or Wine Country.  Each mural can be personalized with changes in composition and your own painting style.

Whatever you want, it's yours with knowledge and practice. We can give you one, you must provide the other.
